What it actually mean??
There are billion of cells in human body and almost each and every cells contain some information mechanism. Insulin is hormone which need some mechanism through which it contact with cells like we need some input device through which we can contact with our computers same insulin receptor act as input channel for cells.
Why insulin resistance develop??
Its a complex multifactorial mechanism in easy way when we use our car daily it need some maintenance for proper functioning. Insulin receptor become old and less sensitive today insulin leading to insulin resistance.
How fasting reduce insulin resistance??
When we undergo fasting for atleast 14 to 16 hours our basal insulin secretion decrease by which body senses that there is more need of insulin receptor and upregulate(made more new receptors) receptors which leads to better hormonal function.
Interestingly when we fast for atleast 18 to 20 hours cell undergo autophagy by which cell consume damage protein and receptors and make new receptors. Autophagy peak at 36 hours but when we regularly undergo fasting atleast once per week there is no need of 36 hour fasting.
How often we fast??
Atleast once per week. My be your off day or any ritual day.

Role of intermittent fasting and autophagy in healthy lifestyle.
Intermittent fasting, 16 hours fasting window and 8 hours eating window stimulate autophagy. Autophagy also known as chaperone-mediated autophagy is the process by which proteins damaged by free radicals are removed from the cell. This helps with overall cell longevity, increases insulin sensitivity and improves mitochondrial function. The 16 hour fasting window was defined according to the most effective interval of time for a minimum of 10 consecutive meals within a 24-hour period. For each individual, the Intermittent Fasting effect on autophagy was evaluated from week 3 to week 8. A variety of biomarkers were assessed over this period including serum insulin, glucose, and triglycerides as well as liver and skeletal muscle lipid content During fasting, autophagy increases, as a result of a longer starvation period and satiety signals. In addition to an increase in autophagy and lifespan extension, fasting also improves glucose homeostasis by normalizing blood glucose levels, prevent...
